Hi I’m Stefanie Frank, former lawyer, specializing in content marketing and copywriting and creator of Initiative Based Writing™
The road to Initiative Based Writing started with my voracious reading habit in early childhood. Though I read more than I can possibly recall, my personal favorite books are Bleak House and Instant Replay: the Green Bay Diary of Jerry Kramer. I was continually astounded by how a great book could shift something in me and show me, viscerally, evidence of more that was possible.
The seed of Initiative Based Writing as a business was planted in the fall of 2006. I left my law firm job the year before, had suffered through a family tragedy, and felt utterly depressed and directionless. So I decided to sign up for Silverman: a half iron distance triathlon. There was absolutely no athletic background or basis for this decision. Just a gut feeling.
2007 was a complete and total disaster athletically. Signed up for five triathlons. Completed none. For some reason could not bring myself to quit. So I started again.
2008 was much better. Signed up for five triathlons. Completed five!
On November 9, 2008 I finished Silverman. A 70.3 mile Odyssey of Obstacles—from 30mph winds and a delayed start to 5 flat tires during the 56 mile bike, rain, and, finally hail — which we never ever see here in southern Nevada! All of this resulted in a finishing time of 10:48:33, over 2 hours longer than it “should” have taken.
Details from race day are memorialized HERE.
My reflections post Silverman are HERE.
That entire Silverman Day shifted something in me. I received reams of cumulative evidence that I do in fact have what it takes. Because of this I knew, without a doubt, that my white paper business idea could become a tangible reality. The only question was how badly did I really want it? Over the next two years, Initiative Based Writing was born.
And this is just the beginning.
